Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

  • John Pietlickiabout 11 years ago Dover NH
The beauty of the North Country is important to me, and draws visitors form all over the country and the world. Let's not ruin it for future generations by creating a scar across the landscape. Either bury it or go away!

Ilived in NH for 25 years and still work there. I have land in NH. I look out my window across the Conn. River into NH and enjoy it's beauty every day in spite of the four separate power lines in view. Let us not destroy it further .

I enjoy hiking and the last thing I want to see, is wires when I am outdoors.
  • Andrew Daubenspeckabout 11 years ago Lebanon NH
NH should not suffer the great loss of scenic capital, so important for tourism, in order to pass power on to Southern New England. The touted job creation is peanuts as planned; burying the lines will create more jobs and do less damage to the NH economy.

Bad idea - give in to NP and even more will come. Time to draw the line.

I have seen the transmission towers from the MAnicougan River hydro dams in Quebec and am horrified at the prospect of seeing these huge ugly towers in our beautiful NH countryside. Please bury the wires.

It is important that we preserve our natural heritage for both present and future generations

I've seen some of the footage of what the views will like once the No Pass is put in and it's not pretty....REALLY? In this day and age there's no other alternative?

We need to retain the natural beauty of our state and, the proposed route will pass through our neighborhood adding one more eyesore that will lower the value of our property.

No explanation needed here. Anyone who does not know why this is important is as good as dead.

Northern pass will destroy the north country. Bury it or don't build it.
  • Doris and Dean Rothabout 11 years ago Woodstock NH
This power line would go right in front of our home and many others. We do not want this eyesore nor the potential damage to health with these lines overhead.
  • Darlene king-jenningsabout 11 years ago Campton NH
Governor Hassan, Please, if they have to come at all please make the Northern Pass bury the lines . Nothing good can come from above ground lines .Thank you , Darlene King-Jennings
  • John Fieldabout 11 years ago Jaffrey NH
Burying the lines meets both objectives: an important new source of power and preservation of the landscape that makes NH special.
  • Sarah Shelleyabout 11 years ago Merrimac MA
Stop uneccesarily damaging wildlife. This makes me sick. We have destroyed enough already. We need trees to breath air but somehow our electronics are more important?

It is critically important not to destroy our scenic beauty & our environment because it is irrevocable. Once it is ruined, it is never coming back.
  • Melanie Vaillantabout 11 years ago Colebrook NH
I would see the Northern Pass High Power Line from my property and are really not interest into that view of High Power Line. The Citizen of NH have to sign this petition to conserve the beauty of our state.
  • Paul Sanbornabout 11 years ago Canterbury NH
Responsible stewardship of our State's natural resources require, at the very least, burial of all transmission lines associated with the Northern Pass project.
  • Robin Martinabout 11 years ago Bow NH
The landscape of our state and country would be forever changed if this were to happen above ground. Bury the lines or don't do this at all! Please!
