Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

Once the integrity of the land and the beauty are destroyed, there is no going back. Do not allow our heritage to be destroyed for private gain. NH is special, the people are special, let it stay that way.

New Hampshire should not be the overhead extension cord for Southern New England. Why should the pristine beauty of New Hampshire be destroyed with 1,500 towers when the viable alternative is to bury the lines using HVDC Light Technology.

Please: save our state from being ruined by hundreds of ugly towers; bury the lines or STOP this travesty from happening!

Open wild space if a rare commodity. We must care for it as for any other rare and irreplaceable resource. Conservation is our first step. "Keep all the parts."

I have always lived in NH. My roots go deep. We must honor our heritage as we move forward. Stringing a power line the length of NH neither honors our heritage nor does this regressive proposal represent progress. At the very least, bury these lines!

We are heartbroken over the ruination of so many natural areas worldwide, and appalled by the long term stupidity of that destruction. This one happens to be the one we live in.

Stop Northern Pass. Nobody wants this. There is nothing to be gained for NH. There would be only desecration of our landscape and the start of a ruinous decline.
