Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

It should be buried now so we don't spoil such an important natural resource.

NH is a haven for many from the urban trappings of our current, self made existences. We must preserve NH for our environment and future generations to come.Cheap energy should not include destroying nature and quality of life

I grew up on a 1,500 acre dairy farm in Colebrook and to see that loss of nature's beauty destroyed because of some people's greed when I was a teen(I am 45 now) was devastating!! Please, don't allow this to happen because of greed, I beg of you!!

I have hiked all over our State. The natural beauty of our State can take my breath away. This project will destroy so much for so little benefit.
  • Daniel Melansonabout 9 years ago Manchester NH
This is a private attempt, not needed by people in NH, which will destroy our forests, views and way of life.

To save the nature and environment for future generation.

This project does very little to benefit NH, the majority of the electricity is for southern New England. It is just another case of big business wanting more profit. We do not need another blemish on our landscape. Bury the lines or abandon the project.

I believe it should be very important to everyone! We cannot continue to alter and destroy our beautiful, natural areas for our children, wildlife, and ourselves.

I sign this because every person I have met during my many wonderful stays in the north country have a fierce and unyielding pride for the area that they call home, and that alone is enough to rally my vote to their cause.

New Hampshire does not benefit from having these large power lines go throughout the state.

We’re looking to buy a home in Grafton Cnty. We eliminate any potential homes that are close to or would have a view of the towers. Property values are already being affected! DON’T SELL NH OUT to a small profit margin difference of a multibillion $ corp.
  • Scott Robergeabout 9 years ago Colebrook NH
Please Bury this Project because the only reason that I live in The Great North Wood is for the Beautiful Scenery and the benefit of not living in an area cluttered with overhead power lines.
  • Chris Puringtonabout 9 years ago Londonderry NH
We need to start investing in the future, not the past! There are much better renewable energy options that we should focus on.

Puts dependence on outdated technology. Hydropower is not true "green energy", America should be taking steps towards a green future.

I feel that the beauty of our state is at risk which trickles down to affect our economy. This project will only benefit the state financially and put citizens at further risk of entering poverty.
  • Patricia Mearaabout 9 years ago Campton NH
I live in New Hampshire because I love the mountains. I want the Northern Pass project as proposed to be cancelled. Northern Pass must bury the transmission lines completely underground along existing north-south transportation corridors.

Growing up in this area, I know the natural beauty this area provides along with the wildlife that will be negatively impacted by this project. Say NO to Northern Pass!!
  • Jane Collinsabout 9 years ago Charlestown NH
as a native of NH it makes me sad these insensitive idiots can justify this raping of our beautiful state, once its gone its gone so either bury ALL of the lines or as they say Welcome to NH now go home!!!! to some other state

We have a uniquely beautiful state and would like to keep it that way. That can't happen with massive, above ground, monolithic towers. Bury the lines.
