Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

Protect the beauty of the White Mountains. Use locally produced green energy like solar instead.

The App. Mountains are some of the world's most precious treasures. I am retired and enjoy hiking in that area. There's got to be another way!

The wildness of NH is what attracts me to it for many decades in the past and many years in the future

The landscape is too beautiful to be marred by ugly towers.

My family has owned property in New Hampshire for more than 100 years. We are now on the fifth generation learning to love and explore these mountains. Please don't ruin it.

I look out over Newfound Lake. Its beautiful. Please stop the view of extension cords all over our lovely state.

Because there are other options out there that will not take away from the natural setting NH has.
  • Jim Feslerabout 11 years ago Madison NH
New Hampshire has beautiful vistas in the wooded and mountainous areas. Power lines would ruin this aesthetic, and probably damage tourism as well.

Having to look at a never ending file of offensive poles will destroy a beautiful scenic and rural view in OUR STATE.

We lived in New England (several years in NH) before retiring to Florida last year. We still come back to visit relatives who live in Waterville Valley. Please keep this pristine, lovely environment for generations to enjoy.

I've loved the mountins of New Hampshire for over 40 years, and have tought my childern to love them as well. I look forward to the opportunity to pass the same beauty on to my grandchildren. These towers will impair the beauty of the hills..

We don't own anything on this planet, we a simply stewards and must protect it. God created all that there is for us, not to be abused, but to be respected and revered...leave it alone...

I travel from Mass. frequently in all seasons to hike in the Whites because of its beauty and wilderness. Don't deface it with Norther Pass.
  • Robert Mathewsabout 11 years ago Deerfield NH
Northern Pass if built as proposed would permanently deface the New Hampshire landscape. If this for profit project is to proceed it should be buried to best mitigate its long term effects on our environment and our health. Bury it!

We have a duty to protect these lands, New Hampshire's heritage, while they are entrusted to us. Tell HQ to bury the lines or not come through New Hampshire at all.
  • Bruce Perloabout 11 years ago Sugar Hill NH
It will ruin the scenic beauty of our area. Also, I will be able to see the towers from my house, reducing the value of my property.
  • Annette FInkelsteinabout 11 years ago City AZ
Preservation/conservation, Out-dated technology should not be used. More expensive to install buried lines, BUT cheaper to maintain
  • Laura Demingabout 11 years ago Salisbury NH
This project will have a huge impact on this state, people, wildlife, and natural landscapes, so if it's worth doing, then it's worth doing correctly.
  • Michelle Pilonabout 11 years ago Billerica MA
I cannot in full confidence back a project that will have such a detrimental impact on the WMNF.
