Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Nature, keeping quality of life by not destroying and changing landscaping and affecting the health of its residents without mentioning the fauna all for material gain for a few

As an outdoors woman, I value our natural treasures and NH is represents that.

I moved here to enjoy the scenery and the lifestyle and would hate to have this beautiful scenery spoiled by these towers.

I love NH and have a house in Henniker where my sons and their families live. It makes sense to bury the transmission lines and begin to live in the 21st century with our infrastructure needs. Europe and the rest of the world are so far ahead of us.
  • Susan Maccabeeabout 11 years ago Laconia NH
NH is a beauty worth protecting. I think it's a crime to take that away from the poeple who live here and their children and the one's who visit us every year.
  • Audrey Bethelabout 11 years ago Hillsboro NH
There are more creative ways to source our power needs-- the fact that the senate did NOT vote to mandate that the lines be buried, means this project should NOT go through. Our state's natural beauty is more important than this business deal.
  • Linda Heminwayabout 11 years ago Plaistow NH
I hate looking at ruined views with power lines going through. It disturbs the natural beauty of things. We are trying to purchase land with a view and are worried about the view being destroyed.
  • MARK MARCHIONNIabout 11 years ago Deerfield NH
The beauty of Nh is precious to those living here. We are asking to kill the power lines, just bury them to keep our NH the Nh we love and not turn into NJ.

The technology is there today to preserve our landscape and views. If Northern Pass is needed then bury it.
  • Paul Blackfordabout 11 years ago Franklin NH
Our state has far too much beauty and heritage to allow it to become marred by a long, open cracked pathway of steel towers. Let's bury the lines!
  • diane gallagherabout 11 years ago thornton NH
Unbelievable "bury it" isn't the obvious solution to all who love NH - if NP needs to come at all! Burial along state hghwy would solve some transp budget challenges. Woe the greed and power of PSNH, their political contributions and lobbyists...

I am the prime sponsor of HB569 which was defeated in the Senate 5/15/14. All of our neighboring states and even Canada are burying lines. Why not us?
  • Betsey Phillipsabout 11 years ago FRANCONIA NH

NH is a beautiful scenic state that many come to live and visit. I would like to keep it that way. We have plenty of untapped natural resources for clean energy here in this country that we should utilize, might even help OUR economy!

New Hampshire is such a beautiful state. This is where we go to kayak, bike ride and snowmobile. Don't let big money destroy it.

I have lived in NH almost my entire life. It will ruin our NH great outdoors and the wonderful views we have. Not to mention the health concerns I have. Why should our land be used to transmit power to other states? STOP NORTHERN PASS!!!
