Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

I'm an avid hiker and local business owner. I believe the impact to tourism will be significant and thus a negative for our area.

The Northern Pass is a beautiful area and a treasure. Please don't make it like New Jersey!

I think it is wrong to infringe on land that has been set aside for it's natural beauty. Northern Pass should bury the lines or find another way. They should not be given the right to desecrate an area for profit. Bad precedent.

We need to stop letting big companies try to tell us how to live and ruin what we all hold so dear. I want my children to be able to grow up and go hiking like I did and still do!

Protect our mts. & environment. Northern Pass proposal is not needed. Environmental justice for NH calls for latest technology--bury transmission lines. Our mts. are our legacy to future public users--do not give it away.

There will always be a "need" for more energy facilities of all kinds - that infinite demand should not be met by sacrificing New England's very finite wild places. The woods and hills have paid their price, many times over.

the need to preserve the heritage of this state is even more important now when we can see the results of the damage to other states from careless planning.

There are few relatively pristine places left. Don't destroy the vistage with towers; bury the lines.

Have vacationed and hiked the area for many years. The NP project is not for the transmission of clean energy and is not for the benefit of the state of NH. This beautiful natural resource should be preserved for posterity.

AMC member and hiker. It's very important to keep this, and as much land as possible, as pristine for everyone to enjoy and pass to future generations.

I value the unspoiled NH forests and mountains and the economic vitality that travel and tourism bring to the state. Northern Pass will damage this unique resource.
