Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

  • David Herresabout 11 years ago Clarksville NH
Northern Pass is tearing our state apart.

Can't see any benefit to NH and do see potential for much harm

Hydro Quebec: the way forward is simple: treat our land with respect, act like an enlightened business partner, and bury the lines. The NH landscape entrusted to us--which has inspired countless poets and artists--is not for sale.
  • Terry McLeodabout 11 years ago Woodsville NH
Our beautiful mountains and forests are what brings people to NH to enjoy the the natural beauty of our state. NH will never be the same if these towers are allowed to be on the mountaintops.
  • Michael Teelabout 11 years ago Brookline MA
My wife and I visit the area north of Franconia Notch several times a year. Destroying that landscape is not in the interests of New Hampshire.
  • Naomi Boltonabout 11 years ago Weare NH
We own property at 119 Old County Road, Clarksville, NH and we would be directly affected by towers. We prefer to STOP this all together it is not for NH. If for some reason it was to gain approval it should be underground or nothing.

Ugly, unnecessary, in my yard, greed
  • Kathleen Rockwellabout 11 years ago Plymouth NH
We must protect the beauty of the White Mountains.

This project would desecrate the landscape of NH, and provide no long term benefit to our state. If the power is needed the line can be buried.
  • Casey Huffabout 11 years ago Ashland NH
They are proposing low cost clean green energy. But it's cost is to our state's natural beauty and the economy of our townships that rely on tourism. If we destroy what the people come to see, our untarnished natural beauty, then they won't come.

The Great North Woods have been apart of me since I was a child. Though, I did not grow up there, the views that the land has given us are breathtaking. No circumstance is dire enough to justify ruining such pristine land.

Going across my land. I feel it is only for corporate greed and not for the good of NH
  • Janet Renaudabout 11 years ago Greenfield NH
Energy needs are steady or declining, not increasing. We don't need this destroying our last vestiges of pristine wilderness.

NH is beautiful - don't wreck it !!!
  • Frank Geisabout 11 years ago New Hampton NH
Bury a second line from a chip burning plant(s) to aid the NH North country economy and provide valuable infrastructure for our forest industry. Charge per KW for the power on lines on our real estate.
  • Mary Ann Geisabout 11 years ago New Hampton NH
There is no benefit to NH having these power lines spoil the beauty of our north country. This is a just for profit endeavor . It reminds me of Seabrook, all the lies being fed to the citizens of NH. Stop NP!
  • Michelle Shoemakerabout 11 years ago Pembroke NH
Thank you Governor Hassan for taking a stand on this transmission project!!
  • C Babout 11 years ago NH NH
NH is too small for this project. Seabrook was shoved down our throats years ago in the middle threatening our salt marshes and fishing industry. Now we are faced with another project for the benefit of other states. Send the power lines elsewhere.
  • Judy McBrideabout 11 years ago Plymouth NH
We need to protect our forests. We cannot allow greedy companies to bully us. We must stand up for our views, our eco-systems and our state.
  • Laura Fetridgeabout 11 years ago N. Granby CT
Because we treasure the beauty and scenery of the White Mtns. If Northern Pass does not agree to bury power lines, it should be stopped.
