Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

Bury the transmission line in its entire length through New Hampshire. The areas through which the route is planned are beautiful areas and compete with some of the nations best. Time to stand up for the environment and say BURY the lines at the minimum.

New Hampshire is a spectacularly beautiful state. Why ruin it?

Save New Hampshire as we know it . It is slowly but surely being whittled away.

Northern Pass, if it isn't buried, will destroy the scenic beauty of NH, not only just for one area but many, many more when power hungry "southern" states demand more extension cords to Hydro Quebec or whatever plants in Canada try to do the same.

My grandfather rock climbed the second route on Cannon Cliff in 1929, the Whitney Gilman Ridge, and I continue to climb at Cannon 85 years later. The mountains are beautiful and should not be desecrated. Human values need to trump economic value.

New Hampshire's greatest resource is its' nature and beautiful environment. Once destroyed, it can never be gotten back.

We don't need the electricity, we don't need wind turbines,, we don't need your money. the power is not for NH - leave our state alone.
  • Amy Murawskiabout 11 years ago Lincoln NH
It is wrong for so many reasons. It is destructive, cynical, and will not serve New Hampshire residents best interest. If it is not in OUR BEST INTEREST- THE ANSWER IS NO TO THE NORTH PASS!!
  • Andrea Grayabout 11 years ago Lincoln NH
This is our country home, please keep it beautiful safe and find an alternative way. How about wind energy? Lets show the world how to do things right.

I am from northern NH and still have land in the proposed Northern Pass pathway. I am NOT for burying and am fully AGAINST the Northern Pass. This project has no overall lasting economic benefit whatsoever for NH or for the region.

The Northern Pass would ruin the soul of the White Mountains.
  • Gina Neilyabout 11 years ago Deerfield NH
Though we don't have the beautiful mountains that they have up north, Deerfield does have a small country town charm that will be ruined by corporate greed!

Not clean Not green. Canada`s landscape has been flooded and scarred. they have done irreversible damage. Now its our turn. Why sacrifice our beauty and tourism so a foreign company can profit off our southern neighbors? lose, lose.
  • Tammy Fareedabout 11 years ago Hollis NH
The power lines on my street are buried...makes my street more beautiful than most, and more resistent to storms. That makes our geothermal sysrem even more reliable, so the pay-off for burying the lines is 100% good.
  • Carolyn Daigleabout 11 years ago Littleton NH
NH must preserve the beauty that makes it a great place to live and vacation.Past generations made Natioal and State Parks to preserve what No Pass wants to blight. Let's be good stewards and say NO to the Towers.
  • Judit Noyesabout 11 years ago Bow NH
Native of NH, love the woods but als, I'm not convinced Hydro Quebec is the answer to energy problems. More competition in the energy market is a better idea.
  • Chris Carrabout 11 years ago Newmarket NH
Northern pass can bury the lines to maintain the beauty of NH. It just means a longer ROI for them. That is worth it to prevent the destruction of the forests.
  • Joan Shaughnessyabout 11 years ago Mansquan NJ
I take my family away to New Hampshire to get away from power lines..to get off the grid. Please do not build the Northern Pass and ruin the view!
