Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

I am originally from NH - having spent over 35 of 56 years in what I still consider to be my home state. I am a NH Coverts operator who taught wildlife education to my local conservation commission in Mont Vernon.

The quality of NH life depends upon this project. It needs to be done right to preserve the natural beauty of NH and the beauty that we all have grown up with. Keep NH beautiful-bury those lines!!!!

The White Mountains are not just a National forest - they are a national treasure. They should be disturbed as little as possible, for the sake of the plants and animals that live there and the people who enjoy them.

No state should be asked to save other states money, at their own expense. Our state's most viable revenue stream - tourism, people come to enjoy NH's beauty. Once it's gone, it's gone for good. Don't contaminate NH beauty. I say NO to Northern Pass.

This line goes over my property. I believe the owners of the past gave away their land right of way to benefit themselves and their neighbors. NH's landscape and scenic views belong to everyone, not the big energy companies.

I live on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest in Twin Mnt. NH and would be devastated to see our beautiful mountains destroyed by the northern pass. Please don't allow this to happen.

I love the AT. It is like a second home to me. To see it destroyed like this with power lines would be an abomination. Let's keep the AT natural

We are slowly working our way up the trail and do not want to see it destroyed because of more corporate greed!! Some things are meant to be kept sacred, and this is huge example of that.

We need protected natural spaces. We need the AT, visually, emotionally, spiritually economically. Bury the lines.
