Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

We have conserved our 340 acres in perpetuity because of its beauty and wildlife habitat. Why can't the power lines be buried or stay in the current path through NH?

The residents of the town of Easton has been battling this project from the beginning and we will not give up the fight. No towers to mar our beautiful landscape.

The value of the White Mountain vistas, tree-plant-and-animal diversity, continuous wilderness, and beauty is unparalleled. It should be protected and preserved for future generations without interruption.

Marring the landscape with antiquated power transmission lines is not environamental, therefore not good for the economy of NH.
  • Alan DiStasioabout 11 years ago Hanover NH
It's not just the power lines, it is also the infrastructure to build and maintain them. The impact would be enormous. There is no going back if this were to be built. Please do not ruin what is a finite limited resource we all now treasure; WMNF.

My business depends on the natural beauty of New Hampshire and Tourism. Northern Pass and Wind Turbines will kill the business I have worked 20 years to build. Please stop both.

The beauty of the White Mountains is breathtaking. It is a rare sight in this part of the country. We should preserve it as such for ourselves and those who come after us.

As a property owner in NH as well as Mass. we look forward to visiting NH as often as possible. While in NH we hike, mtn. bike and ski and appreciate the importance of the natural habitat.Northern Pass negatives seem to far out way the positives.

Tourism is the main industry that we have left in the North Country; This Canadian company wants to rape our landscape and ruin the views so they can make a huge profit. We do not want them putting power lines of any kind through our state.

Maine, Vermont & New York can bury the wires why do we have to live overhead wires? Greed!

We have been enjoying the mountains of NH for many years, and we do not want to see their natural beauty tarnished.

This project greatly interferes with our natural resources and beauty and will impact tourism negatively in our State. Tourism in Northern NH is getting to be our Only source of income. No Northern Pass. Thank You.

We use only 10% of the NE power grid to begin with. Where I live, most of the folks are off of the grid to begin with. Hydro Quebec has the $ and the wherewithall to bury the lines...and if they cannot make the effort to do so they should just GO HOME.

This will be a permanent scare on the beautiful White Mountain National Forest...and it's unnecessary as these lines can be buried. We don't HAVE to do this.
