Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

preserve our state's beauty. Who wants to look as huge power lines.
  • Rana Klugabout 11 years ago Deerfield NH
If this project is so important, NP should listen to the people and just bury the lines.
  • Clayton Thebergeabout 11 years ago Stratford NH
This northern pass isn't going to benefit NH in a single way. I love in the north country and I can tell you times are hard enough up here. Why make them harder?
  • Anna Gentileabout 11 years ago Plaistow NH
There is simply not enough benefit to us here in NH to justify the negative impacts.
  • Kathy Johnsonabout 11 years ago Peru VT
We visit New Hampshire often and do not want to see our natuaral environment disturbed by visual man-made objects. BURY the entire project!
  • Leslie Kossarabout 11 years ago Glen Rock NJ
I spent every childhood summer in those mountains, the thought that they will be forever marred is heartbreaking.
  • Patricia Campanileabout 11 years ago Mansfield MA
Let's stop Northern Pass altogether! If the project needs to move forward, insist they bury the lines for the entire route. The beauty of NH will otherwise be spoiled forever.
  • Sandra Wescottabout 11 years ago 03301 NH
The lines for the entire project must be buried to protect NH.
  • Heather Gagnonabout 11 years ago portsmouth NH
I vote NO to wildlife destruction, NO to DC current power lines (6 every MILE) and NO to NorthernPass. Think HYDROPOWER on a SMALLER scale

NH is beautiful! Towers, poles and overhead wires are not!

We visit New Hampshire's White Mountains largely for the scenery. There won't be a reason to bring my family up there if it starts to look like Northern Jersey.

It is hurting our environment and we are not even gaining the benefits from it.

In agreement with burying in existing corridors, if they are allowed to do ANYTHING. Must have more fuel/cost effective rates for NH - if we channel it, we need to be 1st on Benefits list! My town is one of controversy...
  • Leah MacLeodabout 11 years ago Concord NH
Our state depends on tourism for much of its gross income. Views of nature are very important. Bury the darn thing.

The only thing Green about this project is the $$$ PSNH and Hydro-Quebec plan to put in their pockets. Please, Gov Hassan, protect the State you love and serve.
  • mark gashiabout 11 years ago bedford NH
To protect the natural beauty of New Hampshire's White Mountains. PSNH cares about one thing and one thing only....putting money in their pockets. And I am a conservative!
