Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

I have lived in NH for 51 years. I love the scenery here and unless N. Pass in buried, I see no need of it. My son lives in Texas where high towers are everywhere. No Thanks.

Governor Hassan, please do not allow this project to destroy our beautiful countryside.

I love looking at our natural habitat. I have seen Quebec and their towers and do not want to look at that here. Keep NH beautiful.

There is a better solution than to just support the big companies while destroying NH. I demand (as a citizen, not a bureaucrat) a more sustainable solution and will do so until the day I die.

The natural beauty, commanding vistas, and wonders of the New Hampshire environment are a trust we all are called upon to defend and preserve. We cannot allow corporate rapaciousness to undermine this sacred trust.

the project is scheduled to go right thru my farm and pasture not even 500 feet from my house

not only will this be an eye sore when out in the mountains, it will also run straight through my grandparents property in Whitefield NH
  • Bruce Kobleabout 11 years ago Thornton NH
The only thing I see as preventing this project from being underground is corporate profits. Our state and it's beauty are far more important than the bank accounts of the executives of a foreign energy company.

I love NH. I want it to remain beautiful for future generations. It all about our future GENERATION.

We need to preserve the beauty of this wonderful state and not ruin it with corporate greed.

I love my state and want to do what is in the best interest for the citizens who live here. Please help us to protect our enviroment before it is distroyed for ever.

I have property in Pittsburg and have been going up there since 1959.They just completed a few years ago a pipeline for gas underground so I see no reason why the power can't go under ground also? .Where is all the power going? Not in NH!!!!
  • Barbara O'Learyabout 11 years ago Haverhill MA
I grew up in NH and it is still beautiful. Now it will become a massive problem if this passes. Too many towers, too many abortion, jobs lost because no one will visit anymore. Stop the power grabbers.
  • Kathleen Rockwellabout 11 years ago Plymouth NH
Do not allow the destruction of New Hampshire's wilderness beauty.
  • Peter Camannabout 11 years ago Lancaster NH
Simple, there's nothing right about it, it's not needed to keep the lights on, proponents have outright lied about every facet related to it, and then some!
  • Richard Scheibabout 11 years ago Derry NH
NH beauty - let's keep it. Put the cables underground. All users will end up paying the cost difference but we will maintain the beauty.

We need to promote local clean renewable power generation which we can regulate locally, not megawatts passing through.
  • Cindy Rosboroughabout 11 years ago Dunbarton NH
We own a camp in Stewartstown Hollow. Our main concern was that it would go so near to us, but now our main concern is the damage to the natural beauty of the whole area.
  • Roxanne Buschabout 11 years ago Sugar Hill NH
. Bury the transmission lines, bring in needed revenue for the state via modern methods and preserve our way of life. ..How can we ruin living in a picture postcard to make money for a private foreign company? I call that eco-terrorism!
  • clive perryabout 11 years ago meredith NH
Burying the lines is the only option if Northern Pass prevails as overhead lines will destroy the scenic beauty of New Hampshire and puts the tourist industry at risk.
  • Glenn Englishabout 11 years ago North Haverhill NH
Tourism is the State's number 1 business. Why in the world would we allow anything to hurt that business.
  • Lisa Fitzgeraldabout 11 years ago Campton NH
My well is in PSNH ROW and my property borders it. Northern Pass as it is currently proposed is not good for me personally, the state of New Hampshire or the citizens of the United States.
