Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

Plese don't destroy our land in this way. Not only does it destroy the beautiful NH vistas, but the lines are unhealthy. There is no reason not to bury the lines.

Northern Pass towers would scar and significantly diminish the natural beauty and value of New Hampshire. It must be buried.
  • Michael Rosenabout 11 years ago Center Harbor NH
I love the New Hampshire scenery and have since I was a nine year old boy visiting from New York. Now I own property in NH and hike and ski there all the time. I don't want the beautiful scenery ruined by above ground high tension transmission lines.
  • Robert Cravenabout 11 years ago Easton NH
Overhead transmission lines destroy views and property value of properties near them. Northern Pass consistently refuses to discuss burying their transmission lines, while buried line projects are moving ahead in Vermont, Maine and New York..
  • David Sakuraabout 11 years ago Thornton NH
We are new comers to New Hampshire. We built our home in Thornton because of the natural beauty of the state. Don't let the planned above ground transmission line spoil this beauty for generations to come. Either bury Northern Pass or ban it completely.

I don't want to see New Hampshire's scenic beauty sold out to Northern Pass.

New Hampshire's trees and the pristine forests and their integrity are very important to me and my family. Northern Pass would make a huge destruction and this is not good for the people of New Hampshire.
  • Philip Prestonabout 11 years ago Ashland NH
I have seen the impact of high transmission lines in Quebec, and I hope we never have them in New Hampshire.

My enjoyment of this beautiful place where I live and work will be ruined trashed, raped........
  • Jackie Stetser.about 11 years ago Hillsboro NH
I am a hiker, and I love the NH scenery. The high tension wires are ugly, and would ruin the view. If Northern Pass had put their TV ad money into burying the lines, it would be paid for already!

As a life-long resident of NH I want to see all of the things that make up the beauty of NH remain for the generations to come. The landscape will be forever marred with above ground lines, and once done, will never be the same.
  • Sam Conklingabout 11 years ago New Hampton NH
Dear Gov. Hassan, We must stop the Northern Pass transmission line plan as currently proposed becasue it will ruin so much in our great state. It should be burried, or stopped.

  • Margaret Merrittabout 11 years ago Center Sandwich NH
My husband and I moved to NH because we loved the scenic, unspoiled beauty of this place. Please do not let Northern Pass wreck this beauty for us and for generations to come.
  • Daryl Thompsonabout 11 years ago Gilford NH
Northern Pass is so wrong for New Hampshire, for so many reasons. Burying the lines along the corridors is the only way to tolerate this power line through our state.
  • Pat Giaquintaabout 11 years ago Deerfield NH
Please stop the Northern Pass from happening ~ I have 5 grandchildren living in NH and they will be directly affected by this project. It won't benefit NH in any way but it sure will make energy companies rich at the expense of our homes & our landscape.
  • Carol Meiseabout 11 years ago Bradford NH
New Hampshire does not want these power lines. Especially above ground. Don't let the power companies shove this down our throats.
  • Sandra Kaminsabout 11 years ago Lancaster NH
if Northern Pass does not agree to bury power lines, it should be stopped.
