Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

  • Mary Sue Seppaabout 11 years ago Pittsfield MA
It is so important to preserve what wilderness we have left for the health of the planet and all who inhabit it.

Enough is enough. If Southern NE needs electricity then PSNH should bury the lines and the end users can pay through their distribution costs.

The AMC's beauty and wildlife should be protected

Keep our beautiful whate mountains free from unsighly towers! This is where people come from all over the world to view beauty! Do not destroy God's blessings, for money or convenience. Sincerely Valerie Greene ,

Hydro power is not clean energy and allowing Hydro Quebec to come through New Hampshire would be supporting ruination of natural areas in both Canada and New Hampshire.

Shared family home in Jackson for 64 yrs, and spent 3 summers working for the AMC at Madison Springs Huts. We should protect the viewscapes of NH from despoilment by profiteering power industries, without any benefit to the citizens of NH. See CLF.org.

I've lived in New Hampshire for 28 years, and now am in Maine. I choose these states for many reasons, their natural beauty being one of the most important. If we must have Northern Pass, let's not have it desecrating the landscape. Please!

I'm an avid hiker and lover of natural beauty. Not very familiar w/ utilites and their expansion but certainly would like to have the line buried and not obstruct mother nature's beauty.

It is economical to bury the power lines, you just need to change the price of power delivered.

This matters to me because I've found a home in the pristine and beautiful natural beauty of New Hampshire. I work with the AMC in their high altitude huts in the summers, the White Mountains are my playground.

We retired to northern NH for the beauty, tranquility, and opportunities for outdoor activities. Our frequent guests and family also travel here to visit for the same reasons. Please oppose the antiquated technology that will mar the beauty of this area.

My wife and I vacation in the White Mountains in both summer and winter. The unspoiled vistas are what we return for year after year. And we bring our money with us and contribute to the local economy.

New Hampshire is a beautiful state and this pristine beauty brings people here to live and enjoy the outdoors. Northern pass should not be allowed above/under ground. Please stop the plunder of our state.
  • Brian S. Meyerabout 11 years ago Plainview NY
It is and has always been important to preserve New Hampshire's forests and wildernesses for all to behold and enjoy.
  • sandra ortonabout 11 years ago greenfield NH
It is unconscionable to think that power lines could be erected above ground in 2014. Scrap the Northern Pass proposal if the lines cannot be buried. Actually, scrap the whole plan! This state is too beautiful to trash.
  • Mark Orzeckabout 11 years ago Stark NH
If anybody proposing this absurdity would spend some time in NH, especially in the WMNF and the Great North Woods, then the answer to the question of importance would be obvious!
  • Gerri Kingabout 11 years ago Concord NH
It's important to me for the same reason all NH citizens should care. Northern Pass is a huge threat to our beautiful state.
