Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

I have been hiking the White Mountains for many years and both my daughter and granddaughter are now enjoying the fabulous wilderness with me. I wish to see the beauty and remoteness of these mountains preserved for the foreseeable future.

We love NH. It is beautiful everywhere you look. Don't let the Northern Pass spoil that for the generations to come. Preserve our unique beauty for all.

I've been coming to NH for over 40 years. I own property and plan to retire there. Its rugged beauty is like nowhere else I've ever seen (including the Alps). Erecting high-voltage towers when there are reasonable alternatives would be a travesty.

I hike the woods, alone and with friends. We bring our money to New Hampshire because the views are so beautiful.

I am very concerned that we preserve our beautiful state. Northern Pass must agree to bury the power lines, our else the project must be stopped. Thank you!

Because I love hiking and being in the great outdoors. We can do with less electricity if need be; we can find other sources. Keep it local.

We need to keep NH special no turbines either We just can't sell out!!! It's not the NH way..A plea to our Gov. to take a stand..tourism,property value, watershed, wildlife ,hikers, and protect our resources. We'll be recognized for doing it!!!!

Come on, we don't want a power line through our National Forest spoiling our public woods.

I've been a NH Plant Conservation Volunteer for the last 12 years, working to preserve heritage species, mostly in northern NH, an area that would be heavily impacted by Northern Pass. Please act to require the project to modify its plans, or to stop it.

We simply cannot allow commercial / profit interests to destroy or compromise our sacred places that were supposed to be protected from that. Once allowed .. lost forever.

Don't disturb the beauty of the wilderness!!

Why put another scar on NH pristine forests when we have a lot of roadways that we can bury it beside and maybe the State can get some much needed revenue if it was buried on state right of ways.

My parents were Berlin natives and I spent six Summers working on a family farm in East Colebrook - now all threatened. I passed my love for the beauty of the North Country on to my kids, and hope to preserve it for their kids to enjoy someday.

It is important to the environment, to people & animals alike to keep this natural habitat as is. We are damaging an ecosystem that is slowly eroding away each time we allow man to make unnatural changes. Please stop the Northern Pass.

Ask what the effect would be on our maple trees- which supports our maple syrup industry and our fall colors, 2nd most vivid in the world. Fall is our biggest tourist season for hospitality industry in Northern NH.

The Whites are a very special place, unique in this world. Once destroyed they can never be replaced.
  • Virginia Cretella Marsabout 11 years ago Newbury NH
I have a second home in Newbury. The beauty of NH is what draws me and others here. It is essential that we do not scar the landscape with unsightly and unnecessary electrical towers. Northern Pass can and should bury the lines. Stand firm.
