Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Because I'm a New Hampshire boy, a hiker, skier, and lover our natural habitat.

I grew up in the White Mountains and the negative impact on the water system and forest would tragic. Do we want the next generation to have to deal with it? A better investment would surely be alternative energy projects.
  • Amanda Crispabout 11 years ago Portsmouth NH
This will lead to urban sprawl, deforestation and destruction of habitat. We need to #keepthecountrycountry if we don't we will all suffer, including future generations.

i don't want the scenic beauty of the white mountains marred by ugly transmission lines

The North East U.S. needs a sanctuary for rest, relaxation and health! It needs to be done! Preserve the Great North Woods!

I I believe the White Mountain region is one of the most unique and exceptionally beautiful places on this planet. Please preserve this amazing place for generations to come. It's value cannot be measured in dollars.
  • Melissa Langabout 11 years ago Rochester NH
I love our precious White Mountains! PLEASE do not compromise our North Country.

Keep nature natural. I would only approve of this new transmission line if it were 100% underground
  • Shaun Toomeyabout 11 years ago Salem NH
I work in technology and use it every day. The sheer beauty of our natural landscapes come at a cost that is too high to pay.

I want to preserve the natural beauty of this state. Once it's gone, it's gone!!

I feel like I live in Paradise (like everyone else who lives here). Why trash it for greedy people who only care money and don't live here?

We should support projects that make our state a better place. This project destroys the beauty and quality of life that makes our state unique.
  • Stevan Trooboff about 11 years ago Franconia NH
The project is a disaster to tourism and the local community! If PSNH we're not so broke, they would bury the lines as is being done in Maine. Put a stop to this now.
  • Bartley Robertabout 11 years ago Fremont NH
Lines near my house are clear-cut for about 75 yards and can be seen for miles.I want to see the wild areas look wild into the future without a DMZ cut through the middle of it. Traffic, helicopters, mowing and herbicides are just not good the wild areas.
  • Beverly Snyderabout 11 years ago Bedford NH
I love NH; the mountains, trees, wildlife and waterways. It would be devastating to see the huge ugly towers in any portion of our landscape. I can not find any advantage for this plan. Please do not destroy New Hampshire.
  • TOM GUYREabout 11 years ago Teaneck NJ
    Don't let NH become NJ.
  • Tim Bevinsabout 11 years ago Hollis NH
There is a clear alternative to over-ground transmission lines, which will permanently ruin much of New Hampshire's natural beauty.
  • Edward Ballabout 11 years ago San Diego CA
I have lived in New Hampshire, and still have family living in Hollis. Overhead transmission lines will be a blight and ruin the natural beauty of NH forever. Underground lines are the way to go.
  • Jane Rankinabout 11 years ago Errol NH
I can't state strongly enough what damage the Northern Pass would cause to the region. The entire economy of the North Country is dependent on our pristine environment. Do not allow it to be ruined forever.
  • Marie Woodsabout 11 years ago Silver Spring MD
We have to stop destroying this planet and its beauty.
  • Christopher Guyreabout 11 years ago Lincoln University PA
I prefer projects that maintain the natural scenic resources.
