Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.  

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

    I've been coming to NH for over 40 years. I own property and plan to retire there. Its rugged beauty is like nowhere else I've ever seen (including the Alps). Erecting high-voltage towers when there are reasonable alternatives would be a travesty.

    We need to keep NH special no turbines either We just can't sell out!!! It's not the NH way..A plea to our Gov. to take a stand..tourism,property value, watershed,wildlife ,hikers,and protect our resources. We'll be recognized for doing it!!!!

    I've been a NH Plant Conservation Volunteer for the last 12 years, working to preserve heritage species, mostly in northern NH, an area that would be heavily impacted by Northern Pass. Please act to require the project to modify its plans, or to stop it.

    Why put another scar on NH pristine forests when we have a lot of roadways that we can bury it beside and maybe the State can get some much needed revenue if it was buried on state right of ways.

    Ask what the effect would be on our maple trees- which supports our maple syrup industry and our fall colors, 2nd most vivid in the world. Fall is our biggest tourist season for hospitality industry in Northern NH.

    I have a second home in Newbury. The beauty of NH is what draws me and others here. It is essential that we do not scar the landscape with unsightly and unnecessary electrical towers. Northern Pass can and should bury the lines. Stand firm.
