Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

I go to the Whites to see the beauty not corporate greed.

I am a fourth-generation property owner in the Lake Sunapee area who also spends considerable time in the White Mountains. I treasure the NH landscape, and wish to see it protected against harmful projects or initiatives.

Because many options other than the one proposed by Northern Pass protect our environment better for people and animals.

This is important to me because of the need to maintain natural habitat corridors in the northern forest. People like my family cherish the opportunity to explore natural undeveloped forests without encroachment by development.

Feel that there are better options available. Do not see the benefits to NH long term at the expense of more valuable natural resources.

I love the White Mountains and return all the time here to hike hike. Let's preserve this special region. Uninterrupted Wilderness is much too precious - and is becoming too rare today!

I purchased my home in NH primarily to enjoy the hiking and the pristine views. If I wanted to look at power lines, I would have just stayed in Connecticut.

This is important because it will completely destroy the pristine beauty of this region and the unique restorative feeling you get by being in a wilderness area.

Don't ruin the landscape and the historic views of NH for out of state power ! NO jobs ... Repeat NO JOBS will be longer than a year and the big major jobs are already bid out to out of state companies !!

NU and HQ may think it will be easy to raise the Northern Pass lines because there's no one in the woods to notice. But those woods have been preserved for peaceful use by all, and NU/HQ should enhance this protection, not destroy it.

Make a less than perfect situation better by safely burying these lines and allowing the forest reclaim the scars made by man...
