Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

As with the Week's Act we need our political leaders to stand up to big industrial business and save our forests and land for all.

There is no need to trash New Hampshire for an optional energy project when viable underground technology is being used all around us. The investors can easily tolerate a small drop in their 12.56% return on equity to fund the undergrounding.

I vacation in New Hampshire and beg you to stop the Northern Pass. Keep NH thriving and beautiful without this travesty.

As an avid hiker of NH's 4000 footers, I can't imagine the need for the destruction of the pristine beauty of the intense wilderness that is the NH Whites. I look forward to my reward....the view! Bury the lines.

Burying the line will provide the needed power without reducing our tourist visitation or our property values. WE pay the outrageous taxes here, please let us at least keep the beauty of living here! Don't take that way, too.

Tourism is the second major contributor to employment in NH; the scenic vistas of our Granite State which lure hundreds of thousands of individuals here annually should not be placed in peril.

A foreign co. is using NH to provide electricity to CT and NY. No benefit for NH and only $$ for big companies. Let them bury the line. Tired of their lies we hear in the news. We are not benefiting. Christel

The energy industry is busy burying lines in the very states around us that have laws protecting their environmental and economic interests. So why is NH not insisting on the same level of protection?

The natural beauty of our parks and public lands needs to be preserved so that our kids and grandkids can enjoy the same natural wonders that we've been able to enjoy
