Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

It concerns me that we keep fragmenting the rich ecosystems in our state to benefit others and get nothing in return. This is our state and it is up to us to protect it. ALL OF IT!
  • Mike Ogdenabout 11 years ago East Boston MA
I frequent the mountains and would be very angry if there is more crap in the views.

My wife and I are NH Landowners. There is no compelling reason why this project can't be done by burying the lines while there are an infinite number of reasons why building overhead lines will rob us of something precious that cannot be replaced.

it's our land and our right to dictste to big business how and if they can use it. it should be buried under existing disturbed corridors.

We go to New Hampshire to hike and take in the beauty while on vacations. We will not go anymore if there are power lines obstructing our views.

Above-ground transmission lines through the most beautiful parts of NH are just not acceptable.

Our mountains are one of the most beautiful resources in our state, so please stop Northern Pass and wind turbine projects.

As a property owner in NH, these giant towers will be visible from my property. This part of NH depends on tourism and its scenic vistas should not be marred.

I love NH the way it is. The northern pass will change our mountains.

I agree with Cecile Cormier: It is time to conserve our energy and not be wasteful! Our environment is too precious to destroy it for utility wires.
  • Linda G Dennisabout 11 years ago Newport NH
Everything about this project needs to be stopped!
  • Kate Savageabout 11 years ago Jefferson NH
Governor Hassan, please use your power to help guarantee that NH doesn't become the utility closet of NE. We will get no benefit from this project. Force Northern Pass to bury or forget the entire project. You have the support of us. Stand up for us.
  • Andria Elliotabout 11 years ago Lempster NH
There is no reason why they can't bury the lines. This beautiful state should not have to look at these monstrosities. Our wild life and beautiful forests will be changed forever. Do not do it, please.

I am a college student who grew up in Northern New Hampshire. I find this place to be special. Lets not ruin it by putting up these towers. There is no benefit to the land or the people of this area. LIVE FREE OR FRY.

  • Jan Johnabout 11 years ago Round Pond ME
Gov. Hassan, you must act to either bury or find another, less intrusive solution for the northern pass. We spend time and money in this area, and it clearly becomes less attractive to us, if we can see towers and cables.Thank you for your consideration.

I'm part of a younger generation coming of age in a time of economic strife. We find value in our natural and cultural heritage far over the profit margins of corporations. The undocumented cost is always an environmental and cultural one.
